Reflection 2011

My name is Brandy. I have been in St Pius for a year now.  I think this year has been the bestest year in my learning life because I'm nearly at where I'm supposed to be.  My class has been very supportive even though we fight most of the time.  We managed to talk it out and sort it.  I have learnt lots of new things at St Pius. I learnt that Jesus came down to earth to show us how to be virtues people.  I also learnt how to swim.


I am really sad that I'm leaving St Pius.  

Rangitoto Island

On Friday Room 7 from Saint Pius X School went on a trip to Rangitoto Island for their Activity Week.

At about 8:00 a.m, we walked to the station to catch our 8:30 a.m train to Britomart.  When we arrived, we had to walk to the ferry terminal to catch our 9:15 ferry to Rangitoto Island.  After the short ride we finally arrived at Rangitoto Island.   



My mouth dropped when I saw how tall the mountain was.  At first I thought it was easy then we had to go up the stairs that's when I struggled because my legs were sore and tired.   After the long walk  I finally arrived on top. The view was magnificent.  We ate our lunch and took a class photo.



Finally we had to walk back down. I kept on slipping because it was steep.  It wasn't really that hard but it was very hot with the sun steaming brightly.



I really had fun walking up Rangitoto Island because I have never done anything like that in my whole entire life.  

Reflection

I have learnt that a conscience is a part of me that enables me to judge what is right or wrong.

Subtracting using Tidy number's

This week in Maths we have been learning to solve problems by subtracting a tidy number then adding on a small number to get the answer.

For example:

63-39=39+1=40

so

63-40=23

23+1=24

63-39=24

This week I have been practicing using tidy number to solve an equation.I feel really confident to use this strategy to solve other problem.

For e.g

23+?=31

23+7=30

30+1=31

23+8=31

The first time I took my net book home

YAY!!
I screamed in my head. The moment has finally come. For all of us to take our net-book home. I was so excited. That I couldn't stop smiling. Eventually I had to stop. Taking my net-book home,looking after it carefully and treating it with respect.

Real Talents

Last Friday St Pius X Catholic School had a Talent Show. As I sat down on the floor. I felt very excited to watch my friends perform. The parents were sitting on the chairs. They were waiting for their children to perform. Then Lavinia and Robertanna (OUR M.C.S) came and announced who was up next. Their was a dead silence. Then they started to sing their song.

Everyone was so excited that they wouldn't stop cheering. Me and Jessica were singing from the crowd. We were encouraging them to not be shy because some of them were crying. Their performance was really inspiring and entertaining.


Room 7 went on stage and finished off the show. We sang “As we gather,” Then it was finished we had fish and chips. It nearly the end of the day. I really had fun. I hope other kids had fun too.

The Zoo

In the holiday my family and I went to the Auckland Zoo . It was a long way drive but we managed to get there safely. When we arrived we had to wait at the back of this long queue. Finally we got our tickets then we went through the gates.

First thing we went to see was the Giraffes with their long neck then we moved onto the Zebras to see their black and white stripes . The tigers were put in this big hole so they can’t escape. After we went for a little snack . Then the Journey began again looking everywhere. The one thing that caught my eye were the turtles they were massive .

After we went to Sylvia Park, We explored all the stores. The stuff were amazing and fantastic . While me and my cousin were ordering our food my other cousins were looking for our seats . The food was delicious and yummy. We were full at the end that we couldn’t even walk.

Finally our Journey has ended . We returned home quickly before the sun went down. “That was fun” I told my cousins. “Yeah that was fun” she replied in tiring way.

My highlight

My highlight was when we had to swim from side to side. It was really difficult for me. I couldn’t do it so I keep popping my head up to breathe. At the end I managed to pull myself together and do it properly. I'm really looking forward to swim in our portable swimming pool again.

Netbook is a bad tool for learning

NET-BOOKS IS NOT A GOOD TOOL FOR LEARNING



I think net-book is not a great tool for learning . It is a distracted tool for our learning . You never know what kids might be doing when they are on their net book . They might look like they are doing their work but they are actually not . They might be chatting to other’s . Which will make other’s lose personal connection .


Their are a lot of bad sites that I or other’s might go into . There is You tube ,Face book and Lot's of other websites that are not blocked . Face book is a bad sites for kids because Lot's of people gets bullied from it . You tube is not blocked because its the feeder of google . There are games that kids or I might play during class or lessons . Their might be suitable games but some other people might choose to do bad or rude games . Plus if you’re child spend too much time on their net-book they might have sore eyes like what your eyes will feel when you are cutting an onion.



I know most of yous think that net-book is good for learning because you don't need to use a book or pencil . But I Brandy personally think that it’s not good for learning it is a distraction to most people like me . It is a craving tool that is why is dedicated to responsible people, like adults .

Reading Reflection

Reading Reflection
In Literacy today I had to read a text about Matariki. Then we had to summarise it using bullet points. What I know about Matariki is that it’s a Maori New Year and that it’s a cluster of seven stars known as the seven sister’s.

Sinking and Floating

In Integrated Studies we have been learning about Bouancy which is Sinking and Floating. We discovered that floating means something is above the surface but if something is sinking that means something is under the surface.

Maths Reflection

During maths this week I've been learning about measurement. e.g

10mm =1cm
100cm=1m
1000m=km
millimetres = to measure the length of your pencil and finger
centimetres= to measure the length of a person,book and computer
metres= to measure the length of a netball court
kilometres=to measure the length of a how long a distance is

Pentecost

In room 7 we learnt about Pentecost . Pentecost is the day that the Holy Spirit filled apostles with warmth and strength . They started talking in different languages.

My Reflection

The year 8’s spent 2 days at St Francis retreat centre. Brother Philip guided us around the inside of the house, we went inside the chapel. Everybody had to light a candle. I lit a candle for my Grandma and my Grandpa. After that we had to build an ARK. My partner was Jorina, building an ARK was a really easy thing to do .

The next day we had to get into teams for the Treasure hunting. My team was Elizabeth, Waterlily and Kahlanie. Every team had a task to do. We had to walk around the whole outside of the house to find where the clues are. At the end our team won. After lunch we had to play outside and then it was time to leave.

Leader

During Integrated studies we learnt If we were good leader's and I am a good leader.
This are my 5 qualities that makes me a good leader.

I show good leadership
I never take sides
I may be quiet but I have a big heart
I think before I act
I stand up for myself and other's too

Today I was learning to use the 5 timetable to work out the answer to the equation.

I was practicing how to share 100,1000 and 10 000 between 10 or 20 people

Maths Activity

Today in maths I had to fill in a times table activity. I had to time myself and I finished within 6 minutes. What I need to do next is to keep timing myself at doing this until I get 3 minutes.

Dear Jesus

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for coming into this world to teach me how to love and care for others. I am sorry that you have to carry that heavy cross on your back when you were walking to calvary. Thank you for dieing on the cross to save my sin.

Amen.

Athletics day

After morning tea everyone was all dressed in their house colours because it’s athletics day .They were all colourful and really bright.
Everyone was excited . There were buzzing noise everywhere.
There were cheering and shouting. Children laughing and yelling at each other. Houses did their chant and were singing.
The races began. A sudden quiet came upon the crowd. I could see nervous children sitting quietly. They waited for their turn.
My turn came up. It felt like horror racing them. They were really competitive girls. When Mr Gaffney said “Are you ready girls”. I just stood there frozen like a tree. “BOOM” the bricks clapped into each other. Off I ran as fast as I could. When I got to the finish line I came 3rd.
The end of the day came . And it was time for the houses to sing their chant. All the houses sang their house chant beautifully. But their only has to be one winner. And that was “GECKOS”. All the other houses were disappointed. Then the bell rang . School is finished.

Special Netbook day

YAY!!Today is the day we get to see and feel our own little netboook.Everyone were all excited and happy just like me.

When Miss G came into room 7 after morning tea we were all sitting in our desk quietly waiting

for her to hand out our own netbook.After our principal and Miss G told us the rules.They handed out our netbook when we got it,it was in a packet so we have to open it.After we count from 10-1 we have to turn it on.When we turned it on I was so excited because right infront of me was my own little netbook.When we were logging we have to type in our 8-digit password so that we can get through when we did we played on the games for 15 minutes.

After we played with our notebook we logged off because it was time for lunch.
